The Phils got a present from a old friend last night in the form of a closer. The Phillies acquired Brad Lidge and Eric Bruntlett
for Geoff Geary Mike Costanzo and Michael Bourn.
This move allows the Phils to move Brett Myers back into the rotation to be the number 2 starter behind Cole Hamels.
Tom Gordon will continue to be the set up man, and with the report that the Phils and J.C. Romero are close on a deal this
gives the Phils a good back end of the bullpen.
The Phillies gave up promising outfielder Michael Bourn who before a mid season injury was a game changer with his speed.
Bourn also is a fantastic defensive center fielder who was a defensive substitution in almost every game. They also gave up
former 2nd round pick and hometown kid Mike Costanzo. Costanzo has showed the power that the Phillies expected when they drafted
him. Last year at Reading he blasted 27hrs 2nd in the Eastern League. Costanzo struggled with his defense committing 30 plus
errors last season. His average leaves plenty of room for improvement as he floated around the 250 range all year. The Phils
also gave up Geoff Geary.

Manuel Meets with Gillick to Discuss Possible
Extension
According to the Philadelphia inquirer Charlie Manuel met with Phillies General Manager Pat Gillick today to talk about
a possible contract extension. Manuel led the Phils to their highest win total in 14 years this season with 89 wins. He is
a great off the field manager and all his players love him; However his on the field strategy leaves you scratching your head
nearly every night.
This news crushes some fans hopes of the phillies hiring former NL manager of the Year Joe Giardi. Giardi led the 2006
Marlins to a near .500 record. This was amazing in the fact that the team was a team of rookies and had only 2 proven MLB
players. He was fired following the 2006 season due to fights with Marlins ownership. If Giardi can do that good with a team
like that imagine what he could have done with our talent ill guess we'll never know. It looks like its another sad day for
Philadelphia Phillies fans
